Spandau Ballet - The best of (1997)

Spandau Ballet are a popular British band famous in the 1980s. Initially inspired by the New Romantic fashion, they quickly steered in to a mixture of funk, jazz, soul and synthpop, then eventually mellowed into a mainstream pop act. They continued to be tagged New Romantics, though, well into the mid '80s, long after that genre had waned, and their own style had long since changed. The band was called 'The Makers' in the early years, but profess to have changed their name after a friend’s (BBC London 94.9 DJ Robert Elms) visit to Spandau, a borough of Berlin, the most likely inspiration being from graffiti he saw in the lavatory of a club in The Venue, London (Victoria) in 1978/9, where members of the originally named band worked. These members were (Michael J) Mick Austin (now artist), David Wardill (later David Agar of The Passions), Mark Robinson (now 3D artist/musician), and Gordon Bowman (Drums) (now training in social care)[citation needed]. They had played under the name Spandau Ballet since 1978 and had played in London once under this name at the Hope & Anchor, Islington, London on 6 May 1979 supporting The Softies. The new Spandau Ballet, with Martin Kemp and Tony Hadley, began performing with this name and generating a positive buzz around London.

Timothy B. Schmit - Playin' It Cool (1984)

Timothy Bruce Schmit (born October 30, 1947, in Oakland, California) is an American bass guitar player and singer best known as a member of Poco and the Eagles.
Raised in Sacramento, he began playing in the folk music group Tim, Tom & Ron at age 15. That group evolved into a surf band called the Contenders, then changed its name to the New Breed. Changing its name once again to Glad, the group recorded the album Feelin' Glad in 1968.
In 1970, Schmit joined Poco, replacing founding member Randy Meisner as bassist. After noted tenures in supergroup the Eagles and equally super (but not as supergroup-ish) Poco, Schmit took a cue from his former band mates Don Henley and Glenn Frey and took a stab at a solo career with Playin' It Cool. Not as gifted a songwriter as Henley or Frey, Schmit holds his own in the vocal department and the musicianship is on par with either of his colleagues. But what makes Playin' It Cool sound bit par is the erratic nature of the tracks. The production on several of these tunes sound antiquated in comparison to the super glossed production of the mid eighties; almost reminiscent of Schmit's tunes in the Eagles. It certainly doesn't help matters that many of his Southern California pals (Henley, Carl Wilson, Joe Walsh and JD Souther) make guest appearances, leading to the notion that Playin' It Cool is an album that was several years in the making. It's not the worst of Eagles solo records, but it is certainly nowhere near the best either. Thankfully, Schmit would re-tool his sound and deliver more promising material with later records.

Styx - Greatest Hits (1995)

Styx - Greatest Hits is a compilation album by the American rock band Styx. It was released by A&M Records on August 22, 1995.
This album essentially replaced Styx's previous greatest hits album, Styx - Classics, Volume 15, which was released by A&M in 1987. That previous album had excluded the hit song "Lady" because the song was originally recorded for and released through Wooden Nickel Records (which also had a distribution arrangement with RCA Records). Because A&M/Polygram had been unable to secure distribution rights to the song, most of the classic lineup of Styx (Dennis DeYoung, Tommy Shaw, Chuck Panozzo, and James "J.Y." Young) reunited to re-record the track at Dennis' home studio, The White Room. They were joined by uncredited session drummer Todd Suchermann, who filled in for John Panozzo due to Panozzo's failing health. The track, which is very similar to the original, was titled "Lady '95".
With the exception of "Lady '95", Styx - Greatest Hits features the original album versions of all the other songs included in the compilation. "Come Sail Away" is presented here in its full 6:05 version and "Miss America" is here in its original studio version (despite the CD's packaging showing incorrect time listings for both tracks.

Bob Seger - Night Moves (1976)

Night Moves (Lyrics)
I was a little too tall
Could've used a few pounds
Tight pants points hardly reknown
She was a black haired beauty with big dark eyes
And points all her own sitting way up high
Way up firm and high
Out past the cornfields where the woods got heavy
Out in the back seat of my '60 Chevy
Workin' on mysteries without any clues
Workin' on our night moves
Trying' to make some front page drive-in news
Workin' on our night moves in the summertime
In the sweet summertime
We weren't in love oh no far from it
We weren't searching for some pie in the sky summit
We were just young and restless and bored
Living by the sword
And we'd steal away every chance we could
To the backroom, the alley, the trusty woods
I used her she used me
But neither one cared
We were getting our share
Workin' on our night moves
Trying to lose the awkward teenage blues
Workin' on out night moves
In the summertime
And oh the wonder
Felt the lightning
And we waited on the thunder
Waited on the thunder
I woke last night to the sound of thunder
How far off I sat and wondered
Started humming a song from 1962
Ain't it funny how the night moves
When you just don't seem to have as much to lose
Strange how the night moves
With autumn closing in.

"Night Moves" was named by Rolling Stone as Best Single of the Year for 1977. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame named it one of the 500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll, Seger's only such selection.

Buklod - Kanlungan (2005)

A folk singer in the '80s that can be credited to bringing to a wider audience in the now-popular acoustic music scene, Buklod became one of the most popular alternative rock artists in the Philippines for his advocacy campaigns reflecting the hearts and minds of every Filipino.
Noel Cabangon a pioneer of Buklod became a household name when “Kanlungan” went commercial. Every true-blooded Filipino of all ages couldn’t have possibly missed the simple yet touching melody that once graced television advertisements. But little did everybody know that this acoustic artist has been an avid Greenpeace supporter. He has been a Greenpeace volunteer since 1996. Here is the song Kanlungan: (Tagalog)
Kanlungan;
Pana-panahon ang pagkakataon
Maibabalik ba ang kahapon
Natatandaan mo pa ba,
Nang tayong dalwa'y ang unang nagkita
Panahon ng kamusmusan
Sa piling ng mga bulaklak at halaman
Doon tayong nagsimulang
Mangarap at tumula
Natatandaan mo pa ba,
Inukit kong puso sa punong mangga
At ang inalay kong gumamela
Magkahawak-kamay sa dalampasigan
Malayang tulad ng mga ibon
Ang gunita ng ating kahapon
Ang mga puno't halaman
Ay kabiyak ng ating gunita
Sa paglipas ng panahon
Bakit kailangan ding lumisan
Pana-panahon ang pagkakataon
Maibabalik ba ang kahapon
Ngayon ikaw ay nagbalik
At tulad ko rin ang iyong pananabik
Makita ang dating kanlungan
Tahanan ng ating tula at pangarap
Ngayon ay naglaho na
Saan hahanapin pa
Lumilipas ang panahon
Kabiyak ng ating gunita
Ang mga puno't halaman
Bakit kailangan lumisan
Pana-panahon ang pagkakataon
Maibabalik ba ang kahapon
Lumilipas ang panahon
Kabiyak ng ating gunita
Ang mga puno't halaman
Bakit kailangan lumisan
Pana-panahon ang pagkakataon
Maibabalik ba ang kahapon.

Barbra Streisand - Duets (2004)

Duets is the 42nd album by Barbra Streisand. It is a collection of some of Streisand's duet performances recorded both in the studio and live between 1963 and 2002. The album contains two newly recorded songs, one with Barry Manilow.
In her lengthy career, Barbra Streisand has never shown much inclination to share the spotlight. In the movies, she must endure a leading man, but in her recordings, she has gone it alone for the most part. In 1978, however, a disc jockey edited together her and Neil Diamond's recordings of "You Don't Bring Me Flowers," and she and Diamond quickly cut a real duet, resulting in a number one hit. Thereafter, she cannily coaxed others into sharing the microphone, resulting in chart singles with Donna Summer, Barry Gibb, Kim Carnes, former boyfriend Don Johnson, Bryan Adams, and Celine Dion, and album tracks with Johnny Mathis, Michael Crawford, and Vince Gill. The material mostly consisted of mediocre adult contemporary ballads that were outshone by the star power of the singers. This album collects all those duets, plus a couple of newly recorded mediocre adult contemporary ballads sung with Barry Manilow and a few stray tracks from the 1960s and early '70s when Streisand joined another singer. Her unsuitability to the duet format is repeatedly evidenced, as she seems virtually incapable of shutting up when her partner is trying to take a solo, invariably humming in the background to draw attention back to herself. The only real exception to this rule is the version of "I've Got a Crush on You" recorded for Frank Sinatra's own Duets album, a track Streisand did not control. Naturally, the best performances occur when she is paired with a singer who is more than just a cipher -- Sinatra, Ray Charles, or Judy Garland, the latter two in TV performances. Then, of course, there's the medley of "One Less Bell to Answer" and "A House Is Not a Home" on which she finally finds the perfect duet partner, her overdubbed self!

Tracklist:
01. I Won't Be The One To Let Go (Duet with Barry Manilow)
02. Guilty (Duet with Barry Gibb)
